The 1942 Chris-Craft 17 Barrel Back embodies the elegance and craftsmanship that defined the golden era of wooden boat building. Part of the iconic Chris-Craft company's legacy, this vessel is emblematic of the artisanship, design, and boating innovation that established Chris-Craft as a leader in marine engineering during the mid-20th century.
From 1940 to 1942, Chris Craft produced under 500 of the 17ft Chris Craft Deluxe Runabouts, or better known as Barrel Back runabouts. The iconic Barrel Back name comes from the almost perfect semi-circle transom that looks from the rear like a floating barrel when it is in the water. This is a beautifully appointed, mahogany-hulled runabout and was built to the highest standards and the graceful lines made them popular with generations of collectors and wooden boat enthusiasts.
This 1942 Chris Craft 17ft Deluxe Runabout was originally from New Hampshire on a freshwater lake in that area. The restoration was completed in 2013, with a West system applied to the hull.
The Chris-Craft is powered by a 131 horsepower Chris-Craft K-B engine. It comes with a full custom cover.
The 1942 Chris-Craft was built during a turbulent period in history, as World War II impacted industries worldwide. Chris-Craft adapted to wartime needs, producing military vessels alongside their recreational crafts. Despite the challenges of the era, the company continued to innovate and maintain its commitment to quality and design. The 1942 model stands as a testament to their resilience and dedication to excellence.
Today, the 1942 Chris Craft 17 is a highly sought-after collector's item, admired for its beauty and historical significance. Owning one of these boats is considered a privilege, as it connects the owner to a rich history of maritime craftsmanship.
The 1942 Chris Craft 17 is more than just a boat, it is a piece of history, a work of art, and a symbol of craftsmanship that continues to inspire admiration. Whether cherished by collectors or enjoyed on the water, this vessel remains a timeless masterpiece that embodies the spirit of nautical design.
